As a part of Film, Palace’s set of Punjabi movies, The Brians’ the well-known Manmohan Singh will direct the movie, which is the perfect blend of Punjabi household values and traditions, foreign influences, and modernization versus traditionalism clashing.
While the film seems to be rooted in the Indo-Punjabi in rural Punjab with western elements, tensions and relationships are developed within a certain Punjabi farming family and international investors. The story continues to deal with family honor, respect to ancestors, attachment to land, and immovable property all of which come in sharp conflict with commercial interests and the fancies associated with modernization. A film which evokes the spirit of Punjab and appreciates the tradition of Punjab while dealing with realities facing the agrarian society of today.
“Goreyan Naal Lagdi Zameen Jatt Di” is not simply another household melodrama but rather giving emergence to the realities which many lodged-in families have to endure when powers from beyond the borders seek to encroach into their jurisdiction. Film Location
This film is set in the countryside depicting the villages of Punjab in all their color in rural life. In fact, most of the shooting was done in and around the two cities of Amritsar and Ludhiana, which show the region’s pretty mustard fields, simple village architecture and action packed markets. These places are not just backdrops but they are also one of the characters in the movie, showing the passion of the Punjabi farmers towards their land.
Another important factor of the film is land itself, which from the very beginning acts as a unifying part of the story. The Countryside of Punjab with its vast green fields is juxtaposed with the alienating cities of today’s world which are occupied by modern industrial glamor and consumerism which makes a graphic expression, the clash of present vs tradition.
Also, some parts of the film were shot in Canada, representing the idiosyncratic relationships between the Punjabis and the countries they have been unable to return to all these years. The contrast ever so clearly between rural Punjab and the present world is captivating and serves to build on the tension of the movie.
